A ship that alternated the route with the Carvalho de Araújo every 15 days on the Azores–Madeira–Lisbon journey, carrying up to 220 passengers.
There was a certain rivalry between the two ships and, although the Lima was cherished by the local populations, the truth is that there was a preference for the Carvalho de Araújo.
Built in England, it had a design flaw that caused it to always lean, even when anchored. Gossip had it that this was due to its “age”…
